Cut Costs, or Spend Wisely

When times are tough you have to look at how you can Cut Costs to maximise profit.  It feels like you need to pull the belt in and cut expenditure to its bare bones in order to maximise profits.  But is that the most sensible approach?

It is common for businesses to cut back first on marketing.  Cutting back on marketing can be sensible if your marketing activity is not bringing in any business, but if it is generating income for you shouldn’t you be increasing your spend?  For example, if by spending £500 you will generate £5,000 in income or more, then that isn’t that money wisely spent – and perhaps you should be spending even more.

Firstly, Art History isn’t all about looking at, and admiring, pretty pictures.  It is about understanding the context of the artwork.  Why it came about, why it looks the way it does, basically what influenced it into being the way it is.

We often hear that more businesses fail coming out of a recession, rather than during it.  So why is that?

During the recession

Recession has a big impact on a business generally.  It is certainly challenging to stimulate customers to continue to buy when they themselves are struggling with finances.  And we all know that if your sales are down then you need to reduce your costs accordingly, often meaning we also cut our resources and capacity for production.
